Reminder Cleanup this Saturday Meeting at Union 8 Restaurant, X of Sth Circular/Emmet Road – 10am

Hello all,

Just a reminder that we will be having a litter clean up in a new area –  I know, exciting times  – next Saturday 10am. Meeting at the Union 8 Restaurant at 10 am. See the map attached for location. We’ll do a bit along all the roads radiating out from that area, Emmet Road, up towards INchicore past the gaol, a bit of South Circular. Whatever we can manage really with the numbers. Union 8 have kindly agreed to give us a cup of tea afterwards.
The weather looks great so if you fancy a bit of exercise in Autumn sunshine, this might be the hour’s cardio to set you up for your weekend partying.
If you can’t make it but know people in this area who’d be interested, please forward this on.
As this cleanup is taking place along pavements adjacent to a busy road can I remind you to please take care of passing traffic and all minors and flighty adults should be closely supervised.
WE MEET HERE – AT UNION 8
meetingpointunion8
I’ll send another mail later with a clatter of local news, events etc.
All the best,
Colm

Take 2! Canal Cleanup Saturday September 17th BERA Hall 10am

Hello all,

As the subject line suggests, we’re going to give a canal cleanup another go! Next Saturday September 17th at 10am at BERA Hall.

Last Saturday’s cleanup had a bit of a hiccup as the weather was manky and also we had a mixup  with the arrangements for the picking gear. My fault for not doing a double check on arrangements so my apologies to the magnificent 7 who braved the conditions to turn up and hopefully the cup of tea and bun was a little bit of a compensation.

Rather than dwell on that, let’s go again for next Saturday and we’ll have the gear sorted this time! For our tea and buns afterwards we’d like it to be a small meeting about what other stuff we could do around the area or areas that need a bit of a focussed cleanup or in general any ideas people have for the group so please bring your ideas.

Also if September 17th is not your bag, on October 8th we’ll be shifting focus to the Kilmainham end of Inchicore as we’ll do a cleanup based at the crossroads of Emmet road and South Circular. The nice people at the lovely new restaurant of Union 8 will provide the tea after that so if you’ve never been, it’ll be a great opportunity to check out a great new business in the area.

Other bits and bobs

  • City Neighbourhood Awards – September 21st 6pm Bluebell Community Centre. Who would like to go? It’s a great way to find out about all the work being done by other community groups in the area. All in all, it’’s a very positive evening. Let us know if you’re going.
  • Dublin City volunteer Recruitment fair  – are you interested in volunteering for other projects in Dublin? there’s a recruitment fair for volunteers on on Tuesday 4th October, at the Carmelite Community Centre on Aungier Street, Dublin 2  5pm to 8pm.

All the best,

Colm

Cleanup this Saturday 10am at the Richmond Barracks Museum!

Hello all,

The newly refurbished Richmond Barracks will be a wonderful addition to the Inchicore area – It’s opening on Monday June 27th but you could get a look at it early this Saturday!
For our village cleanup this Saturday we are going to do a cleanup of the approaches to it – from the Canal, the field and the village. Whatever we can manage in an hour or so depending on the numbers,. We’ll meet at the door of the Barracks and clean outwards.
In exchange, we’ll get a sneak preview of inside the museum !
It would be great to get as many of us as possible along on the day to help make the setting as nice as possible for the Barracks’ big first day (or first day in a long while!)
Regards,
Colm

Thanks | Next cleanup | networking night, | volunteer appreciation night | go-car comes to Inchicore!

Thanks
First of all thanks so much to all of you who helped out with the Big Dublin Cleanup we did at the Blackhorse canal bridge on Easter Saturday. It was a great turn out and also so heartening to get support from our canal-neighbours down stream and from the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland.
Attached are some photos of the day. One thing we did learn from it is that it’s great to pick one eyesore and concentrate on it, the area is small and a group of people can get a lot done in a short space of time. Ditto any planting or painting, so if you have any suggestion please let us know and we’ll try and get a posse together.
So we’ll do one main cleanup a month and then other projects ‘as they arise’ .
next cleanup April 30th Saturday 10am meeting at the Workman’s club on Emmet Road
Our next cleanup is April 30th Saturday 10am meeting at the Workman’s club on Emmet Road near the bus-stop and we’ll do around the village for an hour or so. If anyone has any suggestions on particular areas to focus on we can incorporate that into the morning.
Networking night – Dublin City Council’s Public Participation network this Thursday night April 21st
The objective of the PPN is to promote an active formal role for groups with policy making and oversight committees within Dublin City Council. They’re having a networking evening at Smock Alley on Thursday night. Would anyone like to go and represent us – there’s wine and nibbles! And possibly be our point of contact with them in future
More info about them attached

Grand canal volunteers appreciation night May 4th
Groups and individuals involved with clean-ups along the Grand Canal to the ‘Canal Volunteers Appreciation Night’ which will take place from 19.30 to 22.00 on Wednesday, 4th May in the Oak Room in the Mansion House.  More wine and nibbles – all welcome but do let us know if you are going so we can let them know how many to expect.

Go-car
Alan from Inchicore hardware in the Goldenbridge industrial estate off Tyrconnell Roa – who kindly sponsored our bibs – wants to let us know that Go-car (a sort of Dublin bikes for cars. This is a great amenity for the area for people that have the need for a Car / Van for an hour or even a day to move or collect things) has a new station outside their shop. more info https://www.facebook.com/experthardwareinchicore/posts/10154085293940789

Team Dublin Cleanup Day – Easter Saturday Reminder 11am Blackhorse | |Thanks for last Saturday, | | Rialto Historical talk

Hello all,

a few things to cover in this.
Easter Saturday

Just a reminder about our contribution to the Easter Saturday Team Dublin Cleanup day – we are joining a few other Grand Canal volunteers in cleaning a small area. As mentioned before, it’s a tricky day for people being around so we are keeping the scope narrow and if we get more people we can decide on the day to expand out.
Currently the scope is the area around Blackhorse Luas stop. We will leave our ‘takings’ at that end of the canal. We’ll meet at the gateway up at that end  – map attached.
Eric Conroy of the Inland Waterways will be coordinating for the day. He will be joined by other Inland Waterways Assoc of Ireland canal people and our colleagues from voluntary groups downstream. It lasts from 11am to 1. The group will meet at the Blackhorse bridge  – map attached and there will be refreshments in the BERA Hall afterwards.
As ever with these things, it’s a volunteer effort. Please look after your own personal safety and exercise common sense when around canal banks.
thanks for last Saturday.
we got a great turnout last Saturday Photos attached. – special mention to our youngest members Sophia  and brothers Etienne and Sebastian. –
The place was in bad nick particularly around the Luas stops but we got a lot done.
Rialto Kilmainham Commemoration Group – Guns and Hoses,
Although Guns and Hoses sounds like a drastic solution to those who litter, in fact it’s a very informative talk which will be held in St Andrews Community (map attached)
Center, South Circular Road, Rialto, Dublin 8 on Thursday 24 March at  7:30.  It will be a great story about the Dublin Fire Brigade during the revolutionary years 1913-1922.  Their speaker is Las Fallon, who is a historian and author of ‘Dublin Fire Brigade and the Irish Revolution’
Admission:€2 includes refreshments.  Please feel free to share.  You might also like to check the group out on FaceBook  Rialto Kilmainham 1916 Commemoration Group.
Inchicore Village
A number of people have noted to us that Inchicore village has become more littered in recent weeks – we have raised this with DCC and our public representatives and send photos of the worst bits.
Thanks for reading,

March 2016 Plans

Hello all,

Sorry for the lack of attention to here – but we have been busy. Updates more often our Facebook page  or twitter account
Firstly a big thank you to those who came out last Saturday week. The weather wasn’t great but we still got a lot done. It was also encouraging to see people who were new or had joined relatively recently, A couple of years ago, the mailing list would have been much smaller and the cleanup might have been cancelled so it’s great to see progress in that way. We got a big haul of stuff from the field at St Michaels, cleaned up as best we could the sort-of yard near the fake cafe (no really, it’s a thing) and a general whizz around the village.
2016-02-20 11.14.55.jpg
Flower bed on Tyrconnel Road
We weren’t able to do any planting or weeding of the flower bed on Tyrconnell Road so what we propose is that if a small group would like to take care of this at a time that suits all of them, just reply to this email and I’ll put you all in touch with one another. It might just be a group of two or three like-green-minded people and can grab a window when the weather is nice. It would be great also if it’s someone who was involved in the original planting. So get in touch here and I’ll hook ye up.
Monthly Canal Cleanup 10am-11.30am March 19th
Our next Canal cleanup is March 19th – as it’s after Patrick’s day there;s a slight chance some of the rubbish might be empty drinks cans! So the arrangements are 10am at the BERA hall on the Canal at the top of Connolly Avenue.
Refreshments in the BERA hall afterwards
CanalCleanupMap
The Big Cleanup 11am March 26th

You might have heard about this – as it’s Easter Saturday we thought it might be difficult to get a large group out so what we propose is as follows
We’ll help out. If there’s a few people available to do a clean up of one or too blackspots with a group of people. we’ll help out with whoever’s around.
The area we propose is the canal bank at the Blackhorse Luas stop which is a real eyesore. Eric Conroy ( email econroy AT indigo DOT ie) and Mick Kinihan who are involved in a voluntary capacity with Inland Waterways Association Ireland will be coordinating so they’d love to get a few others to go along. Whoever is around and interested just head along to the BERA hall at 11am to meet up. It would be great to make a dent in that place as it’s manky.
There will be refreshments in the BERA Hall afterwards as well
(also by the way for information, if you’re part of another group, you’re welcome to join us or organise your own one  – you can register here and DCC have all the details http://www.dublincity.ie/teamdublincleanup)
other news,
Continuing the great work being done by the Kilmainham Rialto 1916 group, after a full house the last time, they have another public lecture in Rialto on March 14th.  Full details attached. The Dead of Easter Monday
Thanks as ever,
Colm
