New Planting on Tyrconnell Road

Despite very heavy rain, a team of brave planters dug out a neat little bed on Tyrconnell Road and planted something to brighten up the grey summer. Many thanks to Alan at Inchicore Hardware for a free mattock to help break up the soil – which was hard at the time!

We will be planting a bit more in time but would ask if anyone is interested in helping, plant or maintain, to email us inchicoreenvironmental AT gmail DOT com

April 21st Photos from our Big Canal Cleanup

We had a record turn-out, a lovely spring morning and a huge haul. Thanks to Ken Murphy for being instrumental in organising it, to the BERA Hall for hosting us, to DCC and Ger Toner for the pickups and all our volunteers.

New fence erected to prevent dumping at Camac near Kilmainham Gaol.

There was good news on the dumping front. You may have noticed that near the South Circular Road/Emmet Road crossroads, there is a new fence at the advertising billboard. It is to prevent access to and dumping on the banks of, the Camac. They also cleaned up the bank of the Camac. This was directly as a result of representations made by the Kilmainham Inchicore Network through Aoife Hannan and a bit of nagging from us :). Hopefully this will deter at least the lazy dumpers at a very prominent spot visible to all going to-and-from Kilmainham Gaol. It is a good example of achieving small results just through raising awareness and making contacts. Not all issues will be as easily resolved but it’s reason enough to keep on plugging away. There are before and after photos attached.

Dublin Canals Action Day Saturday April 22nd 10.45 BERA Hall

Dublin Canals Action Day Cleanup

Saturday week April 22nd is a biggie. There is a huge canal cleanup of Grand and Royal Canals right from the mouths out nearly as far as the M50. We will be gathering at the BERA Hall at 10.45 and doing our usual run but we would love to get as many people as possible in order to stretch down a bit further through the Rialto bit of the canal as well. Because of the scale of it we’ll run a bit longer than usual and go onto 1pm but any amount of time you could chip in would be very much appreciated.

There will be refreshments and chat in the BERA Hall afterwards.

Ken Murphy is heading up this one for us. He has been attending all the meetings and put up posters all over the place Chemist across from Credit Union, Black Lion
Two in area of bottle  bank, Mace near White Horse, White Horse, Shop across from Mace, Charity shop around the corner from same, Oblates ( two , large and small ), Euro Spar, Grocery in Bulfin, Cake shop in Bulfin, Bus shelter at Bulfin, Library, Bulfin sports centre, St Michaels Church. He even got a hug from someone to say thanks!
Any other suggestions of where to put them are welcome!BigCanalCleanupPoster.JPG

April 1st Cleanup – Thanks!

Thanks to all who turned out at our cleanup last Saturday week. With the help of some new volunteers we picked litter from near the Inchicore COllege of Further Education all the way up to near Ring Street – about 1.5k!

Also members of our planting team freshened up the bed near the old Bank of Ireland.
