The D8 Green Bridge forum is an active voluntary group that values and supports the access to and development of quality public green and blue spaces, in order to progress connectivity and community well-being across the Dublin 8 area. The wider membership of the group reaches across the Dublin 8 area and includes local residents, representatives of Turvey Park volunteers, Trees for Tenters, the Inchicore Environment Group and Donore Area Sustainable Community and FUNAFLOAT.
Since 2021, Common Ground supported and coordinated the D8 Green Bridge Forum as one its developmental areas of work. This included: monitoring encroachment of the north bank of the Grand Canal Tow Path and bringing it to the attention of Waterways Ireland and Dublin City Council; highlighting the development of local public social, biodiverse and cultural initiatives; supporting Turvey Park volunteers and its development as a local quality and biodiverse greenspace; responding to the Dublin City Development Plan; observations on the Emmet Road redevelopment; annual walks and talks during Heritage Week, Open House and Culture Date for Dublin 8. The forum’s membership created and produced the map -‘Bridging the Blue & Green’ – a resource that highlights the symbiotic relationships between animal life, humans, across Dublin 8’s local green and blue corridors and its landmark sights. The Forum also hosted specialist talks at IMMA outdoors with UCD Professor Gerald Mills (2021) and Lorraine Bull, Biodiversity officer Fingal County Council on creating biodiverse corridors (2024).
At the end of 2025 Common Ground and the D8 Green Bridge Forum approached the Inchicore Environment Group with a view to integrating the role of the forum as one of its active sub groups. This was mutually agreed in January 2026.
Common Ground will continue to work with members from the forum to complete the design, production and installation of the signage for Turvey Park, Devoy Road in 2026.
